Frank Spitzer — Founder & CEO
Born in Zürich, Switzerland, Frank spent 20 years in the financial industry before relocating to Colombia in 2015. He earned an MBA at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá and served as 1st Lieutenant in the Swiss Army. After exploring Colombia during his studies, he founded Pelecanus in 2017 with the goal of building a sustainable, high-standard travel business in the Colombian context.
From the first inquiry through the return flight, you deal with Frank personally — not a handoff team. He has driven across 30 of Colombia’s 32 departments to inspect roads, hotels, guides and routes himself, and documented the country in 400+ first-hand videos on the COLOMBIAFRANK YouTube channel. Before a destination goes into a trip, he has been there — often more than once — and slept in the bed he would recommend.
He works in German, English, Spanish, French and Portuguese, which is why luxury, golf, eco and wildlife travellers from Switzerland, Germany, the US and Latin America trust Pelecanus to build trips that feel custom — not catalogued.

Once approved (typically with a 50% deposit), we handle every booking and stay reachable for the whole trip. Plans change — weather, energy levels, new ideas — and we adjust in real time. Our direct presence in Colombia is a genuine competitive advantage over foreign operators.
Sustainability & Social Responsibility
Pelecanus actively supports local suppliers in every destination we operate. We also support and uphold programs against the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents (ESCNNA) and reject any establishment, person or company that does not.
