San Gil – the Tourism Capital in Santander– has become a must-visit destination for locals and foreign travelers alike. It is an epicenter for tourism in the department since it strategically connects with other touristy towns. Its highlight? Extreme sports. Thanks to its geographic conditions, visitors can enjoy activities such as rafting, bungee jumping, paragliding, rappel and canyoning, horse riding, and more.

La Mansion Hostel

La Mansion Hostel is a 150-year-old colonial mansion located at the corner of San Gil’s main square. Sam and his wife Sylvia run the place with kindness and hospitality. The open-air central patio boasts a nice atmosphere with its vintage décor including a fountain. There is the restaurant offering steaks, BBQ, and the house artisanal pizza is a favorite among visitors. Note that breakfast is not included.
The rooms are equipped with a bathroom, fan, cable TV, and safe. Cleanliness is always pointed out by reviewers. Single travelers and couples that like privacy can choose between a private room with or without a balcony. Backpackers or groups can stay in a bunk bed at the dorm that features a balcony, it can accommodate up to 7 people. Also, there is an ideal room for families with one double bed and two single beds, plus a balcony.
We recommend this hotel to travelers expecting comfort, excellent food, and a little help organizing their trip in San Gil.

Traveler Hostel is another good accommodation in central San Gil, it is a couple of blocks from the main square. It is a quaint house with a shared lounge, kitchen, hammock area, and terrace, in the backyard are the chalets, a lounge zone, and the pool. Also, you can book plenty of adventure tours directly with them or participate in the integration activities they organize.
It has several types of rooms for couples, families, and single travelers in dorm rooms. They are simple but comfortable. If you travel in couple, you should stay in the chalet rather than the double room because of the view and the privacy. It is also larger and has a private bathroom.
Since it is perfect to meet new people, we recommend this hostel to backpackers and single travelers. However, couples, friend groups and families are well-received here.
Palmas del Zamorano Countryside Hotel

Palmas del Zamorano is a 3-star countryside family hotel in the Santander municipality called Curití, 4 miles (7 km) from San Gil. You will want to stay here for different reasons, but the landscape is definitely one.
Despite being small, the hotel offers different services for relaxation and entertainment. There is an infinite pool with a Jacuzzi that boasts a mountains view, next is the restaurant kiosk and the bar, and around the place are lounge chairs and hammocks. You can also enjoy a massage in an open hut facing the mountains.
The rooms are big enough and have a living area, dining table, closet, toiletries, minibar, and satellite TV. They offer views of the garden. Plus, Oscar and Juliana (the hotel’s owners) will pleasantly help you with whatever you need.
We recommend this hotel to families and in general, to travelers looking for a calm stay in nature.
Sunset Palm Lodge

Sunset Palm Lodge is a villa located on the outskirts of San Gil, around 3.1 miles (5 km) from the town. It has individual rooms facing the mountains and a common outdoor dining area with a campfire. The site is suitable for hiking and enjoying a moment of disconnection in nature.
Deluxe King rooms are ample and are equipped with an extra-large double bed. Guests have access to high-speed internet, flat-screen TV, minibar, a Jacuzzi, a dining area, and a seating area in the rooms’ terrace from where to spend the evening admiring the sunset and the town view. On the terrace, there is also a glamping-type net to rest.
We especially recommend this lodge to couples.
