As Colombia’s capital, Bogotá, has more than 9 million inhabitants and is situated at 2,600 meters above sea level. The vast variety of its museums and cultural offers is amazing. Although Bogotá is an immense city, there are natural retreats and hidden natural paradises close by and easy accessible. During your journey you will escape the metropolis and find yourself surrounded by amazing nature and landscapes. You will be able to hear the ancient Muiscas voices whispering in the wind. Upon arrival at El Dorado International Airport, you will be picked up by your private guide and transported to your hotel. After a 40 minutes drive you will arrive to the Hotel BOG. The Hotel is located in La Cabrera, one of the safest and most exclusive neighborhoods in the north of Bogota. A Financial, commercial and gastronomic Zone. Your guide will provide you with all the necessary documents. LOS GUATAVITAS Known as the “Laguna del Cacique de Guatavita”, it has witnessed several events of vital importance for the history of the Savannah of Bogota. It is the setting for the true “Legend of El Dorado”, a story that brought hundreds of conquerors to American lands seeking wealth and gold. On your first tour, you will be picked up by a private guide to be taken to the lagoon. It is a journey that takes about two hours by car. Upon arrival, the activity consists of a one-hour hike up to the highest point of the mountain, where you can enjoy both the beautiful landscape and an impressive lagoon at 3,000 m above sea level. After this tour, you will visit the town of Guatavita for lunch. After a short walk through the town, enjoying also the beautiful view of the Tominé reservoir, you will return to your hotel in Bogota. SIECHA You will be picked up by your private driver and guide in the hotel. The destination of the morning will be the National Natural Park Chingaza, a journey of approximately three hours. We will visit a Paramo, one of the most important ecosystems in the country. Despite representing only 1.7% of Colombian territory, these ecosystems provide more than 80% of drinking water in Colombia. It will be an opportunity to learn about the flora and fauna of these high mountain environments, and the legends and stories that the lagoons of Siecha have been sheltered for so long. After finishing the activity, you will have lunch and finally return to the hotel. SOUTH AMERICAN LLANOS The Llanos is a region with a great biodiversity. This region is a vast tropical plain covered by grassland situated in Colombian and Venezuelan territory. Most of the Llanos is a treeless savanna filled with swamp grasses and sedges in the low-lying area and with long-stemmed and carpet grasses in the dry area. The Llanos has an area of approximately 570,000 square km delimited by the Andes Mountains to the north and west, by the Guaviare River and the Amazon River basin to the south, and by the lower Orinoco River and the Guiana Highlands to the east. This region occupies over 1⁄4 of Colombias territory, but has a small population. Most of the Llaneros, also known as Colombian cowboys, live on huge fincas with intensive livestock production – coexisting with an amazing variety of undisturbed wildlife. The Llanos is still undiscovered by mainstream tourism and remains as a true off- beat destination. WILDLIFE SAFARI After breakfast you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá. You will take a flight of approximately 1 hour to Yopal, the capital city of Casanare, one of the four departments in the Llano region. Upon arrival a private guide will pick you up and will transfer you to the Hotel L’aurora in Yopal. After a short stop at the hotel leaving your luggage, you will already continue the journey to a natural reserve. The transfer takes about 2 hours. The activity of the day will be a Safari. You can do the safari either by a 4×4 or in canoe. Part of the experience will be also hiking through the plains while observing a huge variety of wild animals like Chigüiros (Capibaras), turtles, caimans, exotic birds as the Aruco and the Martin Pescador among many others. Red Corocoras, will get together around a lagoon and will provide you an unique sunset that you will never forget. Later you will be transferred back to your hotel in Yopal. This transfer takes approximately 2 hours. EXPEDITION TOUR In the morning, you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the Finca Llanera La Independencia. The transfer takes around 15 minutes. On your second day you will explore various ecosystems like the gallery forest, savannas, the palm grove and the estuary of the flooded forest. You can do it by horse or hiking. The stinking turkey, the wire tailed manakin and the aligators are just some of the animals you will observe during the activity. You will also meet some monkeys and anteaters. You will enjoy a typical lunch plate of the llaneros. After some rest and free time you will be transported back to the hotel in Yopal. HACIENDA LAS CUMBRES Early in the morning, you will be transferred to the nearby Hacienda Las Cumbres. The transfer will last 20 minutes approximately. After a welcoming breakfast at the terrace you will do a short tour around the haciendas garden, then you will do the ecological trek in the llaneros foothills observing native plant and tree species. The hacienda counts with a 200 hectare forest, hills and different points watching the llanero vastness. After the activity you will enjoy a delicious typical lunch. The afternoon will be at your disposal enjoying the pool of the hacienda with a view above the garden, there are hammocks to relax and even more ecological treks to realize. Then, you will be transferred back to the hotel. THE NORTHERNMOST POINT OF SOUTH AMERICA La Guajira is in the north of Colombia, in the northernmost point of the South American Continent. This peninsula is covered in much of its territory by deserts and memorable landscapes embedded in the water of the imposing Caribbean Sea in the Colombian- Venezuelan territory. It is inhabited by one of the most important indigenous communities in the country: the Wayúu ethnic group, who moves around the territory without taking account of national borders. There, among songs, traditions and ancestral beliefs, this fascinating department extends its territory. It has a range of temperatures from 22° to 40°C and a wide variety of terrestrial ecosystems; from the Guajira desert to the humid mountain jungle. After breakfast, guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel and will transfer you to the airport in Yopal to take your flight to Bogotá. In Bogotá you will take your flight to Rioacha in La Guajira. Upon arrival at the airport Almirante Padilla in Riohacha, a guide and driver will pick you up for your transfer to the hotel. The Taroa Hotel is staffed with native Wayúu people whose colorful costumes, kindness and warmth shows you the charm of La Guajira. After lunch, you will check in at the hotel and then visit an indigenous community to learn about the ancestral culture of the region. You will have the opportunity to taste typical dishes and acquire handicrafts at the end of the activity. Return to the hotel in the afternoon. CAMARONES At 8 am a driver will pick you up at your hotel to escort you to the community and Sanctuary in Camarones. This sanctuary is considered one of the richest protected zones due to its diversity of aquatic and migratory birds. In this territory, declared Colombia’s Cultural and Natural heritage in the year 1992, hundreds of birds, such as the elegant intense pink plumage flemish, a main attraction of the place, delve into the waters of the Camarones river with their peak searching for food. The transfer to Camarones takes around 20 minutes. After a panoramic tour through the town you will arrive to the sanctuary where a native guide will be waiting for you. You will go in a canoe to observe the flemings accompanied by the guide. The ride in the canoe takes approximately 2 hours. Afterwards you will visit an indigenous community in Camarones to get in touch with the Wayúu culture. One of the indigenous will explain you about their habits, myths and legends. They will also offer you their typical plate which is called Friche. After exploring the beach of Camarones you will be transfered back to Riohacha where you can enjoy the rest of the afternoon. We gladly would let you know about some delicious restaurants and bars in town. CABO DE LA VELA After breakfast and check out at the hotel, you will start a 4×4 truck tour to Cabo de la Vela. On the way, you will stop in Uribia, the indigenous capital of Colombia, approximately one and a half hours away. Finally, after about two hours more, you will arrive at Cabo de la Vela and have lunch there. You will stay at Ranchería Utta, a small accommodation in front of the Caribbean sea. Cabo de la Vela is a beautiful headland, there is a green and blue bay with calm waters, as well as a large white sand beach. Thanks to its constant and strong winds, the place is suitable for the practice of kitesurfing. In the afternoon, you will head to the beaches of the water’s eye, where water springs from the rocks. Finally, you will go to the lighthouse to watch the beautiful and unique sunset. Dinner included in the accommodation. PUNTA GALLINAS In the morning, you will leave to Punta Gallinas. You will go on an adventure through the desert passing through the wind farm, Bahía Honda and Bahía Hondita. Finally arriving at your destination. It is a journey of approximately six hours, depending on the conditions it may be less. You will then have a welcoming lunch at your accommodation: Hospedaje Luzmila. In Punta Gallinas you will enjoy a natural landscape composed by dunes, plateaus and rocky cliffs surrounding the Bahia Hondita. Punta Gallinas also preserves the ancestral traditions of the Wayúu ethnic group, considered as one of the best-preserved cultures of South America. In company of your guide, you will visit the famous Dunes of Taroa, a place where you can glide through the sand of the beach to the sea. From the top of the yellow pile of sand, the visitors can contemplate how the red desert melts into the clean blue Caribbean Sea and where the blue-sky creates a canvas that blends with the horizon. You will then return to your accommodation and end the day with a dinner. PUNTA AGUJAS Before heading back to Riohacha, you will visit the beaches of Punta Aguja. You will have time to relax and enjoy the waters and wind of the Caribbean Sea. Afterwards a boat will escort you from Bahía Hondita to the beaches of the Boquita where your driver will be already waiting for you for the transfer to Riohacha where you will have lunch. The tour takes approximately 5 hours. In Riohacha you will stay one last night at the Hotel Taroa. The rest of the afternoon is free and you will have some time to have a rest from the long journey. Last day of your visit. The guide and driver will take you to the airport to take your flight to Bogotá and then back home.
